I’m a multiplatform journalist who has spent the past decade based between Washington DC, New Delhi, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. I have had the privilege of working across almost every journalism medium imaginable – from TV news, programs and documentaries, to podcasts, newspapers, magazines and online.
I have been a producer for Al Jazeera English on several occasions, for award-winning programs such as The Stream, UpFront, Head to Head, 101 East and The Take, the network’s daily news podcast, where I currently work. In my roles on these teams I have produced the live interviews of more than 400 guests from dozens of countries, lined producing shows, written scripts, lead teams of producers, editors, hosts and technical staff to bring shows to air, and field produced documentary programming. I have produced programs on topics ranging from Black Lives Matter in the United States to immigration laws in Denmark, sexism in the online gaming world and life after surviving a coma.
From 2016 to 2020 I was based in New Delhi where I worked as a TV correspondent for Deutsche Welle and wrote articles for a variety of outlets such as The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, CityLab, and The Times of London. During my time in India I covered issues ranging from urban poverty and inequality to environmental issues including water and pollution crises, cultural heritage, religious intolerance, and the economy. I also reported extensively on major events such as the Rohingya refugee crisis from Bangladesh in 2018, India’s 2019 general election and the Citizenship Amendment Act protests at the end of that year and into 2020. In 2017, my story on the destruction of the Hall of Nations, an iconic modernist building in New Delhi won a South Journalism Award for Outstanding Arts & Culture Reporting. Since moving back to Washington DC in 2020 I have also extensively covered the COVID-19 crisis and Black Lives Matter protests across the city.
In my previous stints and Al Jazeera, shows I worked on for The Stream were nominated for Online Journalism and GLAAD awards. More recently, a 101 East film I produced – India: The Child Sex Highway – won Gold at the Telly Awards, a citation at the Overseas Press Club Awards, and is a finalist for three New York Festivals TV & Film Awards. The film was also shortlisted for One World Media and Association for International Broadcasting awards in the UK, and a Documentari Inchieste Gionarlismi award in Italy.
